Rado is a Swiss manufacturer of watches, begins in 1917 in the small Swiss town of Lengnau, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1917, the three brothers Fritz, Ernst, and Werner Schlup open the Schlup & Co. clockwork factory, which initially produced watch movements only. Exactly 40 years later, it becomes Rado Uhren AG: in 1957, the first watch collection is presented under this under the Rado brand – the beginning of an unusual success story. In 1962 the Rado Diastar, the world's first scratch-proof watch, was launched. It has been in production ever since, now sold as DiaStar The Original. In 1983, Rado joined the elite SMH group, now known as the Swatch Group, the biggest watch conglomerate in the world. Rado's sister brands within the Group include Omega, Breguet, Hamilton, Longines and Tissot. Rado watches, however, are not just famous for their premium materials, but also for their special esthetic qualities. Since 1990 alone, Rado has been the proud recipient of more than 30 international design awards. Today, Rado is among the most treasured watch brands in the world.
